MCPDP: UGONSA NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCE AND SCIENTIFIC UPDATES TO NOW ATTRACT 2 CEUs

With effect from the 2017 edition of her annual National Professional Conference and Scientific Updates, the conferences of the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA) shall now attract 2 continuing education units (CEUs) for renewal of licences by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

In a joint statement on Wednesday by its National President, Chief (Hon) S.E.O. Egwuenu, and National Secretary, Nur. G.I. Nshi, the association heartily thanked the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for finding its continuing professional development programmes (CPDP) worthy of the council’s CEUs for licence renewal.

”To us in UGONSA, it is not only an acknowledgement of our relentless efforts in deepening the root of  professionalism in nursing but also a candid motivation to go the extra mile in making more selfless sacrifices for the holistic growth and development of nursing in Nigeria. We thank the NMCN immensely for this worthy consideration.

”To whom much is given much is also expected. By the grace of God, we will not fail in our professional responsibilities to Nigerian Nurses and Midwives.

The association called on all nurses, midwives and nursing students as well to see this development as a golden opportunity and to make all effort to participate in the forthcoming UGONSA National Professional Conference and Scientific Updates that shall hold in Ibadan Oyo State, from 25th to 29th September, 2017, to benefit from the value-added sessions of the event that now attracts 2 CEUs for licence renewal.

The association equally called on her members in non-active states to reach out to as many graduate nurses as can be located at their exposition and organize themselves into viable chapters for inauguration by the national leadership.

”This shall pave way for capacity building to run sound nursing scientific sessions during the compulsory States’ monthly meetings to reflect and drive the professionalism which the association stands for, a feat currently being attained in some States which the national leadership wants replicated in all the States .

Recall that the new NMCN policy on licence renewal requires that every nurse or midwife must earn a minimum of 6.0 CEUs which is equivalent to 60 continuing education contact hours within each three-year cycle of licensure to be able to effect renewal of licence.

”While 3 units of these CEUs i.e. 30 contact hours must mandatorily come from the NMCN own organized mandatory CPDP the remaining 3 units can come from CPDP of other professional bodies accredited by the NMCN such as UGONSA –the statement said.
